Why Sugar Makes us Sick, Fat and Tired

At the starting point of my weight loss efforts I had no concept of how much sugar there is in the average American daily diet. I knew it wasn’t good but I had no idea on how bad it was.

The World Health Organization suggests a daily diet should contain no more than 50 Gram of Sugar daily. But how much is 50 Grams? The picture on the top of this post illustrates how much 50 grams looks like.

However, when looking at nutrition labels you need to be cautious of terms like sucrose, high-fructose corn syrup, dextrose, rice syrup and many more.

To illustrate the problem, a large soda fountain drink of 20 ounces from post fast food restaurants contains near 60 to 70 ounces of sugar in one form or another. Popular apple juice products can contain as much sugar as their equally sized soft drink com padres. But how much is sugar is this in easy to understand terms.

The image above is approximately 50 grams of sugar measured out is about 10 teaspoon of sugar. This suggests if you go for the super sized soft drink at the drive through at lunch you could be consuming nearly double the amount of daily sugar in one gulp.

What I realized very recently is by way of focusing more on a Paleo type of eating pattern I dramatically reduced, if not eliminated, my consumption of processed food there by drastically reducing my intake of sugar. Now my primary concern is the sugar in fruit I eat.

As a matter of daily course I do not drink my calories. Water and black coffee is all I drink 99% of the time. I was never really a beer guy so no problem there. After learning about how important the liver is to living and how much the liver is negatively impacted by alcohol I all but stopped my scotch whiskey consumption.
