I’ve been over weight most of my adult life. I simply accepted the fact that I was never going to be truly comfortable in my clothes. And quite honestly I never really did much to change things. I was in the Army for nearly 10 years and exercised aggressively and even then I was heavier than I should have been. Now I wasn’t “fat” back then, but I was constantly missing the height weight standards set by the Army. But what I remember most is not fitting in my dress uniform. Honestly, I regretted having to wear that uniform.
One day my granddaughter was signing up for soccer camp.I had to fill out some paperwork for her to attend and one there was the question of height and weight for her. I measured with my measuring tape, and I was pretty close. Then came her weight. I had no idea….I went upstairs, got the bathroom scale and brought it down to the living room. She got on the scale. I annotated her weight on the application. Then she asked, “how much do you weigh Papa? Quite honestly I did no, nor did I want to. But, I got on the scale, took a deep breath and looked down. OMG, 257 pounds? How could that be? What have I done to myself? What am I going to do?
Over the many years like most I have a few challenges that brought me to the pinnacle of my obesity. 1. I love ice cream…2.I have an office job, and 3.I have no interest in “Working Out.” One of the perks of my career has always been the industry conferences I get invited to.. The conferences I attend always have unlimited food, deserts and alcohol. It’s been impossible for me to say “No”. I mean it’s FREE….
I was usually one of the first inline for the buffet or the desert bar. And if the bar was open I was either drinking or waiting in line for a drink.
I’m not a nutritionist, a doctor or advisor. Just a regular guy who’s learned a thing to two and would like to share my insights with you. If you want to debate me on Macros and Micros go for it. But don’t expect me to respond. If you want to know where to start making micro changes toward a macro goal then I’m all ears.
Before and After:
I currently weigh 180lbs. I don’t have six-pack abs and no I’m not ripped. But guess what? My clothes fit. And, I like the way I look in the mirror. What I realized once I got closer to my goal weight was the secret.
The secret to this journey was two fold;
1. Change your relationship with food
2. Change your knowledge of food and its’ intent.
In my opinion these are the two secrets to my weight loss journey and I will do my best to share with you what I learned and worked for me.
